Birthday Gifts in Action

Emma ironing with Daddy...she watches him everyday iron his clothes and has been so excited to iron with him and is just as meticulous as he is.

Emma put on her new "pearls", grabbed her purse, and announced that she was taking her computer and going to work. It was hilarious and she sat typing on the computer and muttering things to herself about work and email.

Ironing very carefully. When she was done with this shirt she carefully carried it to me and asked if she may iron another shirt. Training her early...

Emma thrives on order...hmmm...where might she have gotten that?!?! When it was time to clean up, Emma asked for help taking down the ironing board and then found this space to store it all on her own. Pretty good spot if you ask me. Just right for her ironing board.

Practicing setting the table with her new dishes! She came out of the kitchen and called me to "lunch". She had the table all ready and as you can tell by her face, she was very proud of herself.

New Photos

Emma got to make her own special pizza the other night. She thought it was the coolest!

Emma insists upon wearing Daddy's clothes after work. She just laughs and laughs and says, "Goodbye, I going to work now. See you later."

I was going through Emma's summer clothes and putting away the ones that are too small or we are just done with. This, of course, was not ok with Emma. She was quiet and I looked out of the closet to find her dressing herself. Over her clothes she pulled on a swim suit (navy with white polka dots), a pair of capris (backwards), and a ballet slipper. She proceeded to play dressed like that for the rest of the day, until bath time.

Emma was sitting with the boppy and my nursing cover and nursing her teddy bear. He is hidden between her and the boppy. She has been very shy about mimicking the nursing. She only does it when no one is watching her, so I had to take the picture quickly. She was, however, ok with me taking the picture and thought it was funny.

She still loves to hold her brother and talk to him every day!

What a sweet smile...playing outside with Daddy and the bubbles.

Emma loves salad. Here she is eating a piece of romaine lettuce for lunch. I love the hair - she had piggytales in earlier in the day.

Picnic

We went on our first family picnic last weekend. Emma thought it was the most awesome thing in the world. She just sat and giggled and giggled as she ate dinner. Here are some pics from our time.

Playing with Daddy on the "bouncy bridge".

Mommy and sweet Jonah - sound asleep.

Emma figured out how to climb up this metal rope ladder. Once at the top she likes to play with Mike. Before Mike could get up there he was taking the picture of Jonah and me and the next thing we know she is at our feet giggling. When we both - in complete shock - asked how she got down, she said on the really big slide (pictured above). It is really high up and we could not believe that she did it completely on her own. This trip to the park prompted us to make bets on how old she is before we end up in the ER with a broken bone.

So much fun!

Swinging on the big girl swings

Pushing Daddy on the swings

Back at the top of the slide ready to do it again - this time with both Mommy and Daddy on either side.

Emma Update

Emma has been really fun recently and very sweet. She just adores her little brother and spends all day taking care of him. She shares her baby with him and I frequently look at Jonah in the swing or bouncy seat and her baby is right there with him. The way she plays with her babies now is just precious as she mimics what she sees done with Jonah. She is so tender and gentle and has such a sweet spirit.

Yesterday in the car Emma told me that she wanted to go to church to sing to Jesus. We talked about how we go to church on Sunday but that Jesus lives in our hearts and goes with us everywhere. She then declared that she would like to sing to Jesus right then and asked me to put on her cd. She sat in the backseat belting out "I've Got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy Down in My Heart". In the middle of singing she announced, "Mama, I am singing to Jesus." So sweet. She did the same thing in the car today only she explained to her baby, who was on her lap, that she was singing to Jesus in her heart.

Another development in Emma's activity is her reading. "I do it myself" is her mantra and it applies to books. She sits and reads her stories, repeating parts she knows and making up other parts based on the pictures. I love to listen when she doesn't realize I am there. She also puts her baby on her lap and just reads to her. My favorite was when she insisted upon reading to Jonah and read him a story and stopped every page to bend her body over to look Jonah in the face and talk to him in a high pitched voice.

Finally, we have been asking Emma what she wants to pray for before nap and bedtime. She also has been letting us know at meals what we should pray for. This, of course, has provided much entertainment for Mike and I. She, without fail, asks to pray for Uncle Ben every time and if we forget him, she very passionately reminds us. Along with praying for loved ones, Emma has insisted on praying for the lizards (we have them living in our neighborhood), for Holly (the talking parrot at the farmer's market), and any variety of animal that she is thinking about that day. We are really enjoying her!

Emma the Helper

Emma has taken on the role of table setter. She puts out the placemats, napkins, and silverware for dinner. She was very proud of herself the first night she did this completely on her own.

Tea Time

Without any prompting, Emma created a tea party for herself and Mommy. She got out some plates, food, and tea cups - although my tea cup was actually a tea pot! It was very sweet and we enjoyed out tea time together! The "treats" consisted of scones (which were fake spaghetti), tomatoes, grapes, and chocolate cake. Emma even got a bowl for sugar and added the sugar with every cup she poured. It was so fun to see her imagination!
